This Gesha lot comes from Jose Argüello. Jose is a third-generation coffee producer with a focus on quality and innovation. Jose is also the director of the regional cooperative CAFECO. He acquired Santa Cruz eight years ago. The farm is nestled into the Sierra Madre de Chiapas mountain range within the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve. The farm is richly biodiverse. The property spans 250 hectares in total with 95 hectares dedicated to coffee farming and the rest preserved as endemic forest and part of the El Triunfo reserve. Coffee on the property grows under a canopy of native trees and grows in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem.

Gesha is a beautiful, elegant, championed, and cherished coffee cultivar. Once selected for its promise in resistance to coffee diseases, it was later (re)discovered by Hacienda la Esmeralda in Panama as a varietal with impressive and unexpected qualities. Gesha has direct Ethiopian lineage and under the right circumstances display juicy, floral, aromatic, and delicate qualities.

Jose undertakes extensive, meticulous, and rigorous experimentation (sometimes hundreds of micro samples) in order to come to what he thinks is the best processing approach for a given coffee. This lot is a natural processed lot. Before drying in full cherry for 15-20 days on raised beds, this lot was fermented for 24 hours in tanks.
